For more on Anchoring:

Solar Anchor Light

The COLREGS dictate that one must display an all-around white light at night while at anchor. This does, however not apply to permanent moorings.

For years we had a solar powered commercial Navigation aid light on our boat at her permanent mooring as self defence against nocturnal dinghies and larger boats cruising through the mooring field. And yes, before we put this up, our boat did receive the occasional scratch or scrape.

Dinghy Anchor Light

With the availability of very cheap solar powered (garden) lights we have recently added these to our dinghies as well. The one depicted cost 1 Euro. At night it is clearly visible from a half a mile, more than adequate for any boat that happens to be passing its mooring at night to see. Yes, it is not as bright as a ‘proper’ anchor light, but it is certainly better than nothing.
